GHD Hair Straighteners
GHD (also known as 'Good hair day') is an English hair styling company. Owned by Jemella Group, the company was founded in 2001 when former hairdresser, and gay icon James McCallister introduced the idea to friends. In 2007, after being sold to Lloyds Development Capital just 11 months earlier, Jemella was re-sold to management backed by Montagu Private Equity group for ₤160 million.GHD is known for its "iconic" line of hair irons. ghd has been used as a verb. The following appeared in a November 2007 Irish Independent article on school uniforms:Martin Penny won the The North Region Consumer Products Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005 for the product,and Consumer Products Entrepreneur of the Year.
Each year, ghd releases several limited edition models. In the UK, the pink ghd styler has raised over £1.1m for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. In addition to the pink ghd styler in 2008, ghd also released glossy black and glossy white stylers, namely Dark or Pure. Another limited edition was released in November, this time, a purple styler. In 2009, ghd released the "Radiance" styler set, which included products from Benefit Cosmetics.
